Artist in Residence – Sapmi / Norway
Sámi Center for Contemporary Art offers a residency to professional visual artists of all fields. The aim is to strengthen, promote and develop a collaboration between contemporary artists in Sápmi and foreign artists.
Who can apply
The residency is open to professional visual artists.
What does AiR Sámi Center for Contemporary Art have to offer
There is one apartment with two bedrooms, a shared studio and two offices available at the art center in Karasjok. We offer a 1 or 2 months residency with free rent. The residency program will pay tickets for travelling to and back Karasjok, and a grant, 800 Euros pr month.
What does the residency demand of the visiting artist
All expences (other than studio, accommodation and travel) such as living costs, materials and insurance must be covered by the artist.
The selected artist must be prepared to be quite self-reliant. We are running the residency on tight administrative resources. However we are doing our best to set up contacts and network. The visiting artist must understand and speak some English.
The application must consist of a project proposal for the residency period and artist statement, updated cv, documentation of work. Current work is requested. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Please note our aim in your application process: ‚The aim is to strengthen, promote and develop a collaboration between contemporary artists in Sápmi and foreign artists.‘
We prefer the application to be sent electronically. If you are sending video material, please refer to downloading sites like Vimeo, YouTube etc.
If you do have a personal updated website, it is accepted as application material for documentation of work, cv etc.
The application deadline is 1st of December for residencies the following year.
Residents are selected by a jury composed of professional artists and other arts professionals.
