Series „Mosaics of Inner States“:

„I use red lips as a unifying theme, applying the color of inks and acrylic on paper. The face as artists‘ subject matter for millennia – from cave paintings renderings of primal humans to our times‘ abstractions – has been used to memorialize those before us. including the artists themselves, in order to convey messages affecting our present conditions. As a mosaic quilt, my images entice the viewer into philosophical and psychological dialogues of inner emotions or feelings, of the story that they individually and collectively weave.

The face is the first thing we notice, our first impression on how we view the person met. It bears the eyes, poetically referred as: “windows of the soul.” Coupled with facial expressions, it transcends and expresses the universal language of emotions; regardless of linguistic, cultural, historical or geographical differences. The five senses are expressed through it: the touch with the contact of the breeze, rubbing of cheeks, or kiss of the lips; the sustenance with the breath inhaled and exhaled from the nose; the ingestion taken in from the mouth.

Positioned as bookends, the ears hear and feel the vibrations of the world. Communication begins there, including verbal expression. Some androgynous in nature; each contains its own unique expression. A face is also a mask, behind it are secret thoughts that a person would or not share with others; inform of things said or unsaid; a poker faced or transparent projection to the world. The face is a map of the person’s life – a universe, in and of itself.“ (Rosaria Aestus Vigorito)
